HOW TO MAXIMIZE THE IMPACT OF BUILDING WRAPS?

Building wraps are one of the most impressive applications of large format digital printing. However, competition for the attention of potential customers is fierce so you need every advantage you can get. That’s why today we bring you three strategies to maximize the impact of your building wraps.

Are Partial Building Wraps a Good Idea?

You know what they say: Sometimes less is more. This principle also applies to building wraps. While a full wrap is certainly attention-grabbing, in some cases you can maximize the impact of your message by choosing a partial wrap.

If you want a real-life example of this idea, look no further than the partial wrap we created for the Orthopaedic Institute for Children in Los Angeles. It shows a dragon peeking its head upside down, interrupting the elegant architecture of the building. The effect is fun and playful—precisely what you want to convey when you advertise playdates.

What About Surfaces With Odd Shapes?

With traditional printing methods, conventional shapes are the more convenient option. The downside is that flat squares and rectangles can become boring very fast, lessening the impact of your graphics.

With digital printing, you don’t have to shy away from odd shapes. On the contrary, you can embrace them to make your ideas even more dramatic and memorable.

We made the most of this advantage in our work for the exhibition Transcendients: Heroes at Borders that took place earlier this year in the Japanese American National Museum.

The museum itself is a daring work of art that combines circular and cylindrical shapes, which called for visual solutions that would have been impossible using analog printing techniques: We covered a small cupola-like structure with black-and-white portraits and created a supergraphic with the word “Transcendients” that ran along one of the sides of the building.

Are Human Figures Effective in Building Wraps?

There’s something about oversized human figures that grabs our attention immediately.

Greeks and Romans understood this secret and created works whose impact has become legendary, like the Colussus of Rhodes. Now thanks to digital large format printing, brands can also take advantage of this centuries-old trick to convey a sense of awe and wonder.

Take, for example, our custom graphics project for Metropolis LA. This is a complex work that includes different types of graphics (building wraps, wall graphics, vinyl banners, and more), but the centerpiece is the image of a woman that towers above everything else.

While every graphic was made with the utmost attention to detail, the large-scale human figure that ties everything together and gives the project a visual center of gravity.

Such was the impact of that image that it ended up on the cover of an industry magazine—further proof that large-scale human figures just cannot be ignored!
