We Answer 6 Common Questions About Window Graphics

Businesses of all sizes are using window graphics (also known as window decals) to successfully promote their products and services. If you are planning to take advantage of this effective advertising strategy, keep reading to discover the answers to six common questions about window graphics.

What Are Window Graphics?

Let’s begin with the most basic question: what are window graphics?

Window graphics, or window decals, are large format printing graphics that are applied on glass. Thanks to digital printing, all types of images can be used as window graphics, giving businesses almost endless options for advertising.

Window graphics are made of self-adhesive vinyl and are used in different ways, including:

  • Storefronts
  • Ticket windows
  • Fridges
  • Glass dividers
  • Mirrors

These graphics are extremely versatile: they can cover only an area small enough to display your business hours or they can cover entire sides of a building.

Are Window Graphics a Good Option for Storefronts?

Window graphics are an EXCELLENT option for your storefront. Just take a look at this list of benefits and advantages:

  • Cost-effective
  • Fast to install and remove
  • Low maintenance
  • High impact

Window graphics grab the attention of potential customers at a fraction of the price you would pay for other advertising options.

Also, the combination of low-cost and easy removal makes it easy for you to keep the image of your business fresh using window graphics to advertise seasonal sales or special promotions.

How Much Do Window Graphics Cost?

Every large format printing is different. Some of the factors that may impact the final price include the size of the project, the materials to be used, and the type of installation work required.

How Are Window Graphics Installed?

The process of installing a window graphic is notoriously easy to explain. If you have ever used a self-adhesive sticker then you already get the basics of installing a window graphic.

However, while installing a window graphic may be easy to visualize, this doesn’t mean that it’s easy. In fact, it takes considerable skill to properly install a window graphic. Keep in mind that in many cases window graphics are designed to be visible from both sides of the glass, so the installation must be flawless.

There are two basic application methods for window graphics:

  • Wet method: Here, the adhesive side of the window graphic and the glass where the graphic is to be applied are saturated with application liquid. This allows the installer to slide the graphic in place easily and without creating wrinkles or bubbles.
  • Dry method: For certain types of materials, such as perforated vinyl, dry installation works best. Here, installers apply the window graphic directly onto the glass, without using application liquid. Their task is made easier by the perforations in the vinyl, which help air escape from under the graphic, avoiding bubbles and other imperfections

How Are Window Graphics Removed?

Just like the installation process, the removal of window graphics presents unique challenges. For example, while other graphics can be removed using heat as an aid, this alternative is out of the question with window graphics because heat may cause the glass to break.

A safer technique consists in cutting the window graphic in sections using a liner cutting tool and then removing each section carefully. This way there’s no need to apply heat and the glass is not subject to an excessive force that may crack it or damage it.

How to Take Care of a Window Graphic?

Business owners love window graphics for a very simple reason: they deliver a tangible advertising impact while asking very little in return. Cleaning and maintaining your window graphics is as easy as following some simple guidelines:

  • Dust the window graphic often
  • Wash the graphic by hand
  • Use a soft cloth
  • Use a mild solution of water and soap to clean it

To clean any adhesive residue that remains after removing the window graphic, use a mild solvent and a plastic scraper to get rid of it without damaging the glass.
