A massive, beautiful, eye-catching printed mural greets everyone at the Mission Bay campus of the University of California - San Francisco (UCSF). Thanks to the expert work of CR&A Custom, the premier provider of large format printing, design, and installations. The stunning mural adorns the campus’ "Block 34" parking structure, offering a message of peace and hope to patients, visitors, and the community.
The enormous mural, which measures 20 feet wide by 80 feet tall, was meticulously printed by CR&A Custom using state-of-the-art digital printing technology. The mural extends over seven stories of the parking garage, beginning at level 2 and reaching the top of the elevator shaft above level 9. The image, which features a boy flying a kite decorated with a peace dove against a backdrop of vibrant concentric circles, is a striking addition to the UCSF Mission Bay campus.
The mural draws its inspiration from a 2007 event in Kabul, Afghanistan, where 100 street children flew kites adorned with doves and olive branches in celebration of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace. The artwork also pays homage to the American jazz pianist Bill Evans, who recorded a tune titled "Peace Piece" in 1958. Created by San Francisco artist Kota Ezawa, the mural is a symbolic gesture reflecting the community’s enduring hope for peace, especially in challenging times.
